Back in February, I created the website in hopes of having my short story included in an anthology. The publication fizzled and I went back to life abandoning this project. During the hopes and dreams time, I had come across a group of writers called Passionate Ink while I was exploring the genre.
My first contact was met with a welcoming note and information. That had not been my experience when joining other groups. I soon learned that this group is unlike any other. Resources abounded. Input was sought. There was participation on various platforms. The members range from wildly successful to me, brand new, wet behind the ears wannabe writer.
In July, they requested submissions for a fall anthology. I got out my short story and made some revisions. I submitted it and waited by my phone for that email. It came. My inexperienced showed all over my work, but they made suggestions and pages upon pages of edits. They recommended a book to read, Gwen Hayes’ Romancing the Beat – life changing – well story changing. And now, I am counting down the days until it’s published as part of Passionate Ink’s Falling Hard 2021 anthology.
I am excited, overwhelmed, and breathless in anticipation of the release. I’ve got to figure out how to add a newsletter, join Instagram and Twitter, and convince people to buy the book. Did I mention that all proceeds benefit ProLiteracy, an organization that is the leading resource and champion for adult education and literacy worldwide?!?
